Bonjour Baukultur

High-quality Baukultur enabling a good life – who wouldn’t want that? At least, in well-informed circles. What we’re really trying to say is: many people probably aren’t too sure what it all means. Raising greater awareness of high-quality Baukultur and the added value it delivers, promoting networking among those active in the field and inspiring a wider public to get involved – baukulturswitzerland.ch aims to do all that and invites you to lend a helping hand. In this spirit, the web platform is a joint endeavour. Baukultur Switzerland is the brainchild of the Swiss Baukultur Round Table, which was launched by the SIA in 2010 and whose members now include the BSLA, Archijeunes, EspaceSuisse, the SHS, the Swiss Cultural Heritage Network, the Federal Office of Culture (FOC) and the Federation of Swiss Architects BSA-FAS.

‘Bonjour Baukultur’ – this open invitation is echoed in the Case Studies for All. They are based on the Davos Baukultur Quality System and its eight criteria for a high-quality Baukultur. A thirty-second static-shot video accompanied by brief assessments of each of the eight criteria enable viewers to gain a more nuanced picture of the characteristics that define a specific place. In this way, for example, students and school pupils can get to know their own surrounding area better, improve their writing, photography, filmmaking and other communication skills, and actively shape the discourse on the built environment. The “Case Studies for All” are publicly accessible, free to create and view, and easy to upload via a special input mask.

‘Bonjour Baukultur’ is also a theme of the Dialogue module. From historians to WEF presidents, engineers, developers, heads of political parties, professors, architects, ambassadors, cantonal construction engineers and educators: a wide range of people are happy to share their opinions on the hot topics in Baukultur.

Ultimately, ‘Bonjour Baukultur’ is a mantra that runs through the Eventsand Advice sections, imbues the Davos Declaration sister website and is lived by the institutions actively involved in Baukultur and the associated education and outreach efforts. We look forward to your active participation and engagement!
