The fascination exerted by the Californian Case Study Houses is due to no small extent to the building material itself: steel disciplines design and offers immense possibilities. Together with the Institute for Constructive Design at the ZHAW and the Swiss Steel Building Centre SZS in the next issue we ask ourselves whether construction-related research work of this kind might be possible in Switzerland too. And what about the field of multi-storey housing? Like the periodical Arts & Architecture in the 1950s und 1960s we encourage the competition of ideas and, as well as the results of the construction study, we also present a number of completed buildings.
